Dr. Claudia Black, MSW, Ph.D., was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by NAADAC, the National Association for Addiction Professionals on September 27, 2014, for her outstanding contributions to the addiction education and treatment field.

Dr. Black, a Senior Fellow and Addiction and Trauma Program Specialist at The Meadows, received the award from Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, Executive Director of NAADAC at the 2014 Annual Conference & 40th Anniversary Celebration in Seattle, Wash.

This award follows Dr. Black’s acceptance of the prestigious Father Joseph C. Martin Professional Excellence Award on August 24, 2014, at the National Conference on Addiction Disorders (NCAD) for the meaningful impact of her work in the field of addictive disorders.

NAADAC’s members work to create healthier individuals, families, and communities through prevention, intervention, quality treatment, and recovery support. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual or entity who has established outstanding service through a lifetime of consistent contributions to the advancement of NAADC, the addiction profession, and its professionals.

Dr. Black is the co-founder of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) and designs and presents training workshops and seminars to professional audiences in the field of family service, mental health, addiction, and correctional services. She is a renowned author, speaker, and trainer in the field of addictive disorders.

Since the 1970s, Dr. Black’s work has encompassed the impact of addiction on young and adult children. Her workshops have been presented to a wide array of audiences including military academies, prison systems, medical schools, and extensive mental health and addiction programs.

During the span of her career, Dr. Black has written over 15 books and created over 20 educational videos that have become mainstays in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. Her work at The Meadows is evident in its model of intervention and treatment related to family work, multi-addictions, relapse, anger, depression, and women’s issues. She authors books and creates educational videos for use with the addicted client and families affected by addiction.
